When naming the most scariest places and ruins in India the name of Bhangarh comes top in the list. Bhangarh is a ruined town in Alwar district in Rajasthan. It is on the edge of Sariska Tiger Reserve and hence in close proximity of a forest, which makes the place more scary. The modern village has a population of 1306 peoples. The town was established in 1573 during the rule Bhagwant Das, as the residence of his second son Madho Singh, who was the younger brother of Man Singh 1. Man Singh was a general the the court of Emporer Akbhar. Madho Singh used to participate in many of the war campaigns along with his father and brother. Later the ruler of Bhangarh was his son Chattr Singh who died in 1630. Though with the advent of Aurangzeb death, the city started to decline. Jai Singh II attacked the city and joined it with his state in 1720. After which the population started to reduce and famine broke in 1783 and 1840 which made the town deprived of population.

The entry to Bhangarh is not allowed after sunset and before sunrise. The signboards of ASI(Archeological Survey of India) says that, “Entering the borders of Bhangarh before sunrise and after sunset is strictly prohibited. Legal action would be taken against anybody who does not follow these instructions”.

According to the old legends, the city of Bhangarh was cursed by Guru Balu Nath, who said that, “The moment the shadows of your palaces touch me, the city shall be no more!”. But when the decendant prince tried to raise the palace to the height which casted shadow on the Balu Nath’s forbidden dwelling. Guru Balu Nath is said to have been buried to this date in the lands of Bhangarh in a small samadhi or grave.

There are many other myths including one from Princess of Bhangarh, Ratnavati. According to the story she was real beautiful and by the age of 18 marriage proposals from around India came arriving at her place. In the town lived a tantrik or magician named Singhia who secretly loved the princess and tried to use his black magic to get the princess. But he failed and before dying he cursed the palace that it will be deprived of life. The next year there was a battle between Bhangarh and Ajabgarh in which Princess Ratnavati perished. According to the locals the princess has taken birth somewhere else in the world and when she will come back to the palace the curse will be broken.

As you can clearly see cattles with owners in city during day time which means the place is not scary.

Though several people including a search team visited the palace and stayed there at night trying to observe paranormal activities but could not find anything relevant. The ghost stories are fake and groundless. The deserted palace is probably just abandoned by people because of famine and stories started to emerge there after.

There are so many amazing palaces and places to visit in India but government is not interested in making money from tourism or restoring these marvels of history. Not much is known about the history of the city even if it is known the information is not publicly available over the internet. No conservation steps are being taken it seems as people wander freely in the area grazing animals.

    I have been to this place, it does not look that scary but some places like the dark allies were spooky.
