Remove Opendns from firefox and use google for search

At times when you enter some site address in the url bar of firefox you find that you are redirected to open dns because the site name is not present. If you are a die hard google fan you would like to make a google search rather then opening a opendns page. Here is the tweak on how to open google when you are using Mozilla firefox

This works in Mozilla firefox 3

If you like to disable OpenDNS Guide search without removing the OpenDNS, DNS entries from your computer or router, just follow these simple steps:

Use Google Search with OpenDNS in Firefox Location Bar

Type about:config in the address bar and press enter.

If you are on Firefox 3, you will see a notification page giving a warning message click “I’ll be careful, I promise!”. Now type keyword.url in the Filter field and set the value as:

http://www.google.com/search?q=

mozilla settings

Also make sure that the value of keyword.enabled is set to TRUE. That’s it – now any query you type in the Firefox Address bar will go to Google, not OpenDNS guide.

Thats it you are done.

Make sure you donot tweak extra settings if you are not a professional.

If still you are seeing Opendns it is because you have set your DNS server to Opendns settings you should use your ISP provider settings instead

Instead of using our DNS server addresses, 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220, you will want to use DNS server addresses assigned by your ISP.  Your ISP may do this for you automatically, in which case you want to choose a setting like “Obtain DNS server addresses automatically.”

If you did not configure OpenDNS for yourself, please refer to your network administrator or ISP.
