Gunday Story

The story is set after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, where two orphan kids named Bikram and Bala played by Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor respectively are taken in by a man named Lateef who raises them to do illegal work for him. One day when Bikram and Bala are forced into slavery they kill an army officer in the revolt. Even their caretaker Lateef is killed by the police.

The two heroes arrive to Kolkata by a train and start to work in a restaurant but they have a fight with the owner and are again homeless. Finally they start looting trains of coal and sell it in the local market at a lower price.

Soon they become big goons and start looting the whole trains. They overtake a famous coal bandit as well. But with the help of some good work they become white collared.
Then arrives Irfan Khan as A.C.P. Satyajeet Sarkar who is called in to catch these two, and he warns the two that he will arrest them as soon as he finds a single evidence against them.
Later in the movie Nandita (played by Priyanka Chopra) arrives in the lives of Bikram and Bala, she works as a cabaret dancer, the two fall for her. But they decide that who so ever she loves will marry her.
As in any triangle love story the guys fight after a same happens here, a misunderstanding among our heroes becomes the cause of their animosity. After which the movie keeps on going in turmoil until in the end both Bala and Bikram come to know that Nandita is a police officer and she is working with Sarkar to catch the two. In the final scene you will see that the two heroes are running to catch a train while the police is firing at them, and we don’t come to know if the two managed to escape or not. It is the acting of the two lead actors which keeps the viewers on the seat. While Irfan has been given a limited role. You will miss the large scale scenes of coal mines and railway tracks.

The movie does have its highs and lows and within the two and a hours the viewers do get a bit bored at times. Though released on the occasion of Valentine’s Day it may not be the best choice to watch with your partner.

Though some movie posters and scenes do remind us of the movie Coolie and Sholay from the same era but fail in completely capturing the mood of the audience. The songs of the movie are quite entertaining specially the song Tune Maari Entriyaan by KK, Neeti Mohan, Vishal Dadlani, Bappi Lahiri is awesome and will be in trend for some time.
