Some uncapped Indian players who made it big in IPL 2016 auction

Kishore Kamath

A legspinner and a middle-order bat, this lad was stunned with Mumbai Indians raising the paddle for him, starting from 10 lakhs, his base price to a spiralling 1.4 crores! This virtually unknown player had represented one of the teams in the Karnataka Premier League in 2015 and scalped ten at a measly economy rate of less than 6 runs an over. This earned him a trial by RCB team last month. And then, as they say is all history!

M Ashwin

This leg spinner excelled in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India’s premier domestic T20 competition, that was to prove as a launch pad for many a youngster, showcasing their talents to prospective IPL team owners. In addition to ten scalps from six innings he bowled for his state Tamil Nadu, his sub-5.5 economy rate also caught attentionof many, paving way for his 4.5 crore INR bid from newly-formed Rising Pune Supergiants Team. It’s interesting to note that he has been a regular net bowler for erstwhile CSK team. He idolises Anil Kumble.

Nathu Singh

That this guy burs into scene from nowhere may be a surprise to many, but for those who have watched him closely, it just seems inevitable. With none other than Rahul Dravid’s backing, this lad from Rajasthan is known for clocking 140+ Kmph speeds consistently, and trained in world famous MRF academy under Glenn McGrath. On his Ranji debut, he rummaged through Delhi with impressive figures 7 for 8. No wonder, Mumbai Indians signed him for Rs 3.2 crore.

Rishabh Pant

Representing India in the ongoing U-19 World Cup, the southpaw captured everybody’s attention through his swashbuckling, record-breaking fifty against Nepal, going a long way in raising his stakes in the auction from a base price of 10 lakhs to a whopping 1.9 crores! Bought by Delhi Daredevils, this talented batsman hit a timely 111 against Namibia which probably strengthened his case for a much-needed purchase this IPL season.

Pawan Negi

The costliest Indian purchase this IPL season, this 23-year-old is on a high since 2016 began. First selected for T20 World Cup, and then with a meagre 30 lakh base price he was snapped up by Delhi Daredevils for an astonishing 8.5 crores. Cricket fans would remember him playing for Chennai Super Kings for 2 seasons, but his credentials were on a soaring high, as the bowling all-rounder shone for Delhi in Vijay Hazare trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he came in handy both with the bat and bowl. Surely, he’s one of the players to look out for this IPL season!

Deepak Hooda

Tipped as a batting all-rounder, this lad who played for India in U-19 World Cup displayed his batting skills for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2015. The 20-year-old shot to limelight after scoring a ton on his first-class debut and became a regular for his side Baroda in Ranji season. This would have surely compelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to grab him up for Rs 4.2 crore, from a base price of Rs 10 lakh.
