The popular CBS show “Two and a Half Men” was canceled due to the latest attack by Charlie Sheen on the show’s producer. According to the New York Times reports during two separate interviews, Mr. Sheen attacked the producer of the show, Chuck Lorre, saying that he should do ‘his job, which is to write.’ In both interviews, Mr. Sheen stated Mr. Lorre’s given birth name, which is Jewish. Both CBS and Warner Brothers viewed those comments as anti-Semitic. He also referred to Mr. Lorre as both a ‘clown’ and a ‘charlatan.’
Despite the recent efforts of executives to provide Mr. Sheen with addiction treatment, he stated in the interviews that he was fine and ready to go back to work. He further stated, that he had rid himself of his affliction in a ‘nanosecond.’ Yet, Mr. Sheen had twice entered rehabilitation in the past two years. To date, it appears that CBS had tolerated his behavior because the show is one of the most popular on the network in a generation. Mr. Sheen was prepared to take credit for that as well, and indicated that he had taken Mr. Lorre’s ‘tin can’ of a show and turned it in to ‘pure gold.’
Two and a Half Men had been scheduled to begin shooting Monday. In a statement released Feb 24, executives said of the cancellation, “We had to do it.”
