IP university Increases seats

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) will be conducting 23 common entrance tests (CETs) for admissions to 38 programmes. The university is offering a total of 12,778 seats (tentative), an increase of 1,713 seats from last year.

The test centres for MBA, MBBS, BTech and MCA have also been increased. “Noida, Jalandhar, Nagpur and Ahmedabad have been added to the list, which includes Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Bhopal. However, entrance exams for other programmes will be conducted only in Delhi,” informed K K Aggarwal, vice-chancellor, GGSIPU.

Furthermore, the university will now hold the CETs earlier than usual. “This move follows the realisation that earlier CETs clashed with several other entrance tests,” added an official. The first CET, for MBA, will be held on May 25, 2008 and the last, MBBS (Stage-II), on June 28, 2008.

“For the first time, the university will be conducting the CET of MBBS programme in two stages. This ensures that no loophole remains in the selection process. Stage I will be held on June 1, 2008 in 12 cities and, for the short-listed candidates, Stage-II of the exam will be held on June 28, 2008 in Delhi,” informed Aggarwal.

The new programmes included by the university for the CET in 2008 are Master of Mass Media, MA (English and Communication Studies) and BTech Civil Engineering.

It will also be conducting a separate entrance for BSc graduates seeking lateral entry into the second and third semester of BTech programmes.
