Chrysanthemum Garden Srinagar 2026: Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood Timings, Bloom Dates and How to Reach

Chrysanthemum Garden Srinagar 2026 Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood

Look. If you’ve got Kashmir pinned to “tulips in spring, snow in winter,” scrap it. Autumn’s got something new now. Something big. Srinagar’s chrysanthemum garden — Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood, if you want to call it by name — kicked off its 2026 season on Friday, 23 October 2026. Aur honestly? The pictures are unreal. Just unreal. Lakhs of flowers. Yellow. Red. Pink. Purple. White. Sab rang khul ke. Behind them — Zabarwan hills, doing their thing. Around them — chinar trees just turning gold. First frame. Kashmir sold itself.

Anyway — I’ve dumped everything you need before you plan a trip. Where it is. What you’ll see. How long those flowers actually last. Aur, crucially — how you’ll reach it.

Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood at a glance

Side note: “Gul-e-Dawood” is just what Kashmiri calls a chrysanthemum. As for the place itself — it’s tucked inside the Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden. Near Chashma Shahi. Right at the foothills of the Zabarwan range. Close to Dal Lake. So it’s not hiding. You’ll find it.

2026 opening: 23 October 2026. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah opened it himself.

Size: about 100 kanals. That’s roughly 5 hectares. Yeah. Big.

Plants: around 3.5 lakh chrysanthemum plants. More than 70 varieties. And the bloom? Officials expect it to last until around 5 or 6 December 2026. Depending on weather.

Why everyone’s talking about it

So yeah — people are calling it Asia’s largest chrysanthemum garden. It first opened October 2025. This is only its second season, honestly. And already — look at it. This year the Floriculture Department just went hard. More flower beds. Water features. Pergolas. Selfie points. Better facilities for visitors. Sab kuch. Aur the officials? They say those 3.5 lakh plants should give close to 12 million blooms over the season. 12 million. I just — heard that and stopped.

There’s a story behind it too. The Tulip Garden pulls huge crowds every spring. Duh. But autumn? Autumn had nothing. Nothing like it. So the government built this one. To fix the gap. And here’s the clever bit — and this matters — unlike tulip bulbs, which have to be imported every single year, these chrysanthemums are grown and multiplied locally in Kashmir. Director of Floriculture Mathoora Masoom put it simply. Honestly. She said: spring should mean tulips. Autumn should mean chrysanthemums. I love that line. Simple. Beautiful. Sahi baat.

When is the best time to visit?

Right now. Seriously. Flowers started opening in late October. And late October to mid-November — that’s when you’ll catch most varieties at their best. Bilkul. Officials think the whole display will last till roughly the first week of December. But — warning — a hard frost can cut it short. So trust me. Don’t keep pushing it. Plan. Book. Go.

Pro tip — go in the morning if you can. Light’s soft. Crowd’s thinner. Hills look proper lovely before the afternoon haze kicks in. Late afternoon works for photos too, obviously — sun turns golden, nice. But mornings? Mornings win for me.

Quick note on timing and ticket price. Honestly, the government hasn’t put out a clear notice on 2026 timings and fees yet — so please treat this as a rough guide only. 2026 timings and fees aren’t officially confirmed. From what I’ve gathered, the Botanical Garden usually opens around 9 am and stays open till the evening. Last season, travel sites listed a small entry fee for the chrysanthemum garden. Nothing crazy — similar to other Srinagar gardens. Carry some cash. Yaar, please. Check at the gate, or ring J&K Tourism before you go. Safe side.

Reaching Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood

Distances are easy, actually. From Lal Chowk it’s about 8 to 10 km — a taxi or auto does roughly 20 to 30 minutes. Srinagar airport sits at about 22 km. Roughly 45 minutes by cab. If you’re coming from Srinagar railway station, it’s about 18 km. Staying at Dal Lake hotels or houseboats? It’s very close. Boulevard Road takes you there in a few minutes.

Oh — the Tulip Garden is right next door, so even out of season you’ll know you’re in the right place. Can’t miss it.

What else to see nearby

You can easily turn this into a full day. Chashma Shahi is a short walk away. Pari Mahal sits up on the hill above it. Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh are a short drive along the lake. End the day with a shikara ride on Dal Lake at sunset. Karo, trust me — you’ll have seen the best of Srinagar in autumn.

Things I’d suggest

  • Bring a jacket. Late October mornings and evenings in Srinagar get chilly, seriously.
  • Comfortable shoes — the garden is big and you’ll walk. A lot.
  • Don’t pluck flowers. Aur please don’t step into the beds for photos. Let everyone enjoy them.
  • Weekends get crowded. Try a weekday if you can — you’ll thank me.
  • Book hotels near Dal Lake early. Autumn is getting busy now.
