I’ve been burned by GTA dates before, so I didn’t fully believe this one until Rockstar dropped the launch trailer this morning. Launch trailers are the point of no return. Nobody cuts one five weeks out and then slips again.
So, here’s what’s actually locked in — and what’s still just a report.
When’s the GTA 6 release date, then?
Grand Theft Auto VI drops on Thursday, November 19, 2026. That’s straight from Rockstar’s own GTA VI page, which still reads “Coming November 19, 2026” with a big Pre-Order button next to it.
It took a while to get here. The game was delayed twice, which is why you’ll still see old articles floating around with spring 2026 dates. Ignore those. November 19 is the one.
What platforms is GTA 6 on?
Only two at launch: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PS4, no Xbox One, no Switch 2, and no PC (more on that in a minute). Rockstar’s site also carries a “Plays best on PlayStation 5” badge, so Sony clearly paid for some marketing love here.
One thing that tripped people up last week: there was a report that Xbox had grabbed exclusive streaming rights, which would have let PC players stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming on day one. Xbox shot that down. The game won’t be streamed to PC.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
Pre-orders are open, and here’s the damage:
- Standard Edition: $80
- Ultimate Edition: $100, with extra vehicles, weapons, outfits and other in-game stuff
Yes, $80 is about ten bucks more than the usual new-game price. I grumbled about it too. Then I remembered how many hours I’ve sunk into GTA 5 over the years, so I’ll live.
A couple of other details worth knowing. If you pre-order either edition, you can start pre-loading on November 12, a full week early. And there’s no disc this time. The “physical” version is a download code in a box. Collectors are not thrilled, and honestly I get it. Pre-ordering also gets you the Vintage Vice City Pack, a bundle of throwback items.
What’s in the GTA 6 launch trailer?
Rockstar posted it on October 15. It’s short, about a minute and a half, and it feels different from the first two trailers. Less chaos, more story.
A few things stood out to me:
- Jason mentions he got discharged from the Army early, and doesn’t say why.
- There are heists that look way more high-tech than I expected, with Jason in some serious tactical gear.
- Lucia is still wearing an ankle monitor, which you catch during a pretty steamy shower scene. The game is rated M, and Rockstar’s own rating notes list nudity and strong sexual content, so that’s not a surprise.
The music is the other big change. Trailer 1 used Tom Petty and Trailer 2 used the Pointer Sisters. This one uses “Flower in a Hurricane,” a new track from Justice, the French electronic duo who wrote the game’s score. The full song features Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, which is a lineup I did not have on my bingo card.
The story setup hasn’t changed. Jason and Lucia get caught up in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida, with Vice City as the centerpiece.
When is GTA 6 coming to PC?
This is the part everyone’s asking about, so let me be careful. Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Officially, it’s PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, full stop.
But on October 13, GamesBeat reported, citing industry sources, that Rockstar plans to put GTA 6 on PC within the first three months of 2027. If that’s true, it would be a huge change. GTA 5 took 18 months to hit PC, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took 11.
Not everyone’s buying it. PC Gamer’s Andy Chalk flat out said he’s skeptical. My take? Take-Two’s CEO has been talking up PC as an increasingly important platform, so an earlier port makes business sense. I just wouldn’t skip buying a console based on an anonymous report. If you’ve got a PS5 or Series X, play it in November. If you’re PC-only, wait for Rockstar to say something.
