New Delhi, September 22 Today was a sad day for Indian Cricket the youngest captian of Indian Cricket Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi also known as Tiger Pataudi passed away. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was suffering from lung infection since sometime.
He was 70 and survived by his wife, actress Sharmila Tagore and her three children – daughters Soha and Saba and his son Saif.
Pataudi was admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital here this month and was in intensive care unit (ICU)
Pataudi was born on 5 January 1941, played 46 test matches for India between 1961 and 1975. The captain of 40 of 46 essays on India, which has won nine.
Born in 1941 in Bhopal, India, captain of the former Nawab Pataudi and the eighth, Iftikhar Ali Khan, who also played for England, and Sajida Sultan, second daughter of the Nawab of Bhopal’s final decision.
While Saif Ali Khan is one of the best Indian actor, his sister Soha Ali Khan and his mark in film. Saba is a jewelry designer by profession.
Many felt that the marriage did not last long, but only death do them part.
“I have not given anything (after his marriage to Tiger). He is very liberal in his views. I won a lot of experience, gain a different culture, cuisine and dress. I enjoyed it,” he said in an interview with Sharmila.
Pataudi retired from international cricket in 1975 after playing 46 test runs and scored 2793 with an average of 34.91.
He dabbled in politics, he was director of cricket team in 1974-1975 and an International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee for a short period, and a member of the Board of Directors of IPL.
But his life was one big scar, after being arrested for the murder of an antelope in Jhajjar in 2005. He spent a few days in jail before being released on bail.
Pataudi, however, had an image larger than life in cricket in India and the younger generation with the past.
“It’s a terrible loss for the world of cricket. I had the privilege of meeting him several times. Cricket World will miss him as a hero. I really respected,” said Sachin Tendulkar.

Yuvraj Singh tweeted, “You were always a tiger! India has lost one of the best captains of all time, stay in the room! Respect.”
BCCI’s new president, N Srinivasan also expressed his condolences over the death of Pataudi.
“I’m surprised to hear about the news of the death of tiger of Pataudi. He was an exemplary human being who has done Indian cricket to unprecedented heights, as a drummer, outfielder and captain. Revolutionized Fielding standards India team and the whole country. ”
“At a time when a draw was as good as a victory, Tiger Pataudi encourages his players to go for the victory. It was an aggressive hitter who is in crisis, and showed how the struggle of the nation to adversity. I close my colleagues at the BCCI, to express my condolences to his disappearance. Services of India cricket will never be forgotten, “said Srinivasan.
May his soul rest in peace. Nawab Pataudi will always be remembered as a legend in cricket world.
