A historical Monument is on the verge of death
This topic is related to the recent condition of the ancient monuments in Lucknow. One of the most remarkable piece of architecture built by the Britisher’s prior to the revolt of 1857 is The Residency, it was home to British officers deployed in Awadh (old name of Lucknow) at that time. Today, monument lies in ignorance. Despite the fact that about 200-300 visitors from across the city and globe come to visit this ancient monument. Very little has been done to maintain its beauty. The monument was bought down to ruins during the revolt of 1857 by the Indians, still the graves of the soldiers and their families lies in the graveyard nearby.

First, Government and ASI officials have done least to prevent the architecture from standing still. Walls have cracked and demolished with time. Adding extra, damage to the walls and buildings are the visitors who come in without going through any security check with edible items and pens. These visitors write their names on the walls with stones or sharp objects making permanent marks and damaging our cultural heritage. Second, couples can be found in appropriate condition making it hard for visitors who come with their family to stay in the monument premises.
Third, problem that I found noticeable was the trash that the visitors were throwing inside the monument’s garden. Some visitors had cake and soft drink cans which the dumped at the very spot they were sitting. Making the monument a garbage heap rather then a symbol of national prestige. We as Indians and above all being a citizen of Lucknow have been doing this since the monument is open for common public. Half our population is uneducated, preventing them from knowing the basics of cleanliness. So as a aware citizen and educated person in the society it’s our duty to prevent them from ruining our heritage we are proud of. If instant action is not taken to reduce such activities, I am sure soon there will be a day when these monuments will be no more then a heap of dump and we will have nothing to show to our future generation.

I request the concerned officials to look into the matter and do these necessary actions. First, a mandatory security check to prevent access of edible objects and other things which can damage the building. Recent bomb blast in the city have already engulfed innocent lives these security checks can prevent such a mishap.
Second, assigning duties to the concerned security personal so that couples inside the premises maintain dignity of the place.
Third, rebuilding the monument to rejuvenate its lost glory. We have abundant amount of pictures and expert architects who can rebuild the monument to replicate the one originally built by the Britisher’s.
Even the graves have been tarnished by visitors who write their names
These necessary steps will surely help us save our heritage and cultures. Apart from this some added advantages that our government will have from this is extra tourism, Lucknow will arise as an eminent city in Indian subcontinent. Tourism will also increase the per capital income of the citizen providing them with more customers and reducing job crisis in the city.
