Hi I have been recently working on my Company’s travel website, trying to promote their cheap flights keyword. I found some useful seo tips which might prove useful for the starters.
1) Content is king always try writing unique content whether it is grammatically correct or not depends on whether your user will read it or not, usually on a travel flight booking website like mine users come up and book tickets they read only few lines. Google put’s duplicate content at the bottom of its search list.
2) Make URL’s Search Engine Friendly and static for example dynamic url’s like these

have little chances of coming on top of the search list
where as simple readable static url’s like these are always preffered by google

3) Submit your content’s on directory listings to get a backlink usually a direct back link with no link exchange is the best but reciprocal links is also good if the directory insists you can always cheat on that 😛 the more the backlinks you have the more weightage your site gets and has more chances of coming on top of google search
4) Submit your content on article submission or social bookmarking sites like Digg.com, mixx.com etc search google for more social bookmarking sites they not only give backlinks but also help to get your content indexed in google and other search engines quickly.
5) Meta keywords and Meta description should be there on each page, keep in mind not to flood with keywords keep your limit to 10 at max, donot use small keywords like a 3 character letter until its necessary, make a meta description which you think can easily indexed by google and will be searched by end user. Donot write chunks of text in meta description make it terse and to the point probably a 150 word limit is appreciateable.
6) Titles should consist those keywords which you think will be searched by end user make the title readable and one liner include site name in title is not mandatory. Keep the title length to 60-80 characters at max.
7) Try making blogs for backlinks and promotion. Get some comments on those blogs from your own users if possible and they should be positive comments.
8) Leave the rest on luck and hosting service if all goes well your site will soon be on top.
