Sachin Tendulkar today took an oath of becoming Rajya Sabha member. Sachin who is the highest run holder in the history of cricket and one of the most famous players in India was award Rajya Sabha membership. Sachin took an oath in the presence of the vice president Dr. Hamid Ansari. Sachin said that, “In the last 22 years of my international career, cricket has given me so much and I also wanted to give something back to cricket in the latter half of my life. Today with the nomination, I am in a better position not only to help cricket but also other sports. It means a lot to me. I will try to help other sports.” Sachin came along with his wife Anjali. Earlier Rekha was awarded the membership. This might prove a good motion for sports in India. Hopefully Sachin will be able to take some good measures for the upliftment of sports in India.

Under article 80 of the Constitution, the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) is composed of not more than 250 members, of whom 12 are nominated by the President of India from amongst persons who have special knowledge or practical experience in respect of such matters as literature, science, art and social service.
