If you have opened TikTok or Instagram at any point since August, you have probably heard “Babydoll” whether you wanted to or not. Little sax riff, groovy bass, and some celebrity doing a two-step dance in their kitchen. Now the song is number one in the UK, and people are searching for Jamie Miller and Antonio Cipriano together. So who are these two, and how did a song from a singer who nearly quit music end up at the top? Here’s the story.

Babydoll hits number one in the UK

Friday, October 23, 2026. That’s the day “Babydoll” went to number one in the UK, per the Official Charts Company. Close fight too, Tate McRae’s “Housewife” was right behind it. The week before, it sat at number two, behind Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero”.

Bit of history here as well. No Welsh act had a UK number one single since 2011 (that was Sian Evans, on DJ Fresh’s “Louder”). And for a solo Welsh man? You have to go back 41 years, to Shakin’ Stevens and “Merry Christmas Everyone” in 1985. Crazy gap.

Might not stop there either. The Official Charts “first look” on October 25 had it tracking for week two at the top.

What did Jamie say? His words: “this is the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life, I love you guys.” Aww.

Jamie Miller, who’s he?

Cardiff boy, 29, from Pontprennau, though he’s living in LA now. If his face looks familiar, The Voice UK is probably why. At 19 he finished third on the sixth season, with Jennifer Hudson as his coach. Fun fact, he got into singing because auditioning for a primary school play meant skipping maths class.

His big break came in 2020 with “Here’s Your Perfect”, which got close to 600 million Spotify streams. After that came the EPs Broken Memories (2022) and The Things I Left Unsaid (2023), and his debut album Long Way Home in 2024.

But the last couple of years were rough. He told BBC Wales that 2026 was his “last chance” to make it, and that financially he couldn’t make it work anymore. He was, in his words, “on my last legs.” He went independent in 2025, went back to the Motown and classic R&B his dad used to play at home, and decided that if this was the end, he’d go out his way. Then “Babydoll” happened.

How Babydoll went viral

“Babydoll” was released on August 7, 2026. Miller posted videos of himself singing and dancing to it, and the dance caught on. The real spark, by most accounts, was Jennifer Love Hewitt. The 9-1-1 actress posted a TikTok on August 12 where she sat at a piano and played the song. Fans had no clue she could sing like that. A lot of people forgot she put out four albums between 1992 and 2002.

After that, it snowballed. Meghan Trainor, Jesse McCartney, Lucy Hale, Julianne Hough, Trisha Paytas, Rylee Arnold from Dancing With The Stars and even the Savannah Bananas joined in with their own versions of the dance. Miller says there was never any planned social media campaign, it all happened in the most organic way.

By mid-September, Republic Records said the song had over 13 million streams, 60 million views and 60,000 user-made videos. It debuted at number one on the US Pop iTunes chart and also gave Miller his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

Some people online called him an “industry plant”. His answer made me laugh: “I wish I was an industry plant, I’ve done this for nine years.”

Who is Antonio Cipriano?

Antonio Cipriano is an actor and singer best known as John Logan in Off Campus, the Amazon Prime Video ice hockey romance series based on Elle Kennedy’s books. Logan is the best friend of the lead character, Garrett Graham, played by Belmont Cameli. The show was a monster hit this year. It ranked as the third most-watched series launch in Prime Video’s history.

How the Jamie Miller and Antonio Cipriano version happened

This part is wholesome. Cipriano left a comment saying he “needed this song”. Miller messaged him suggesting a feature, then panicked and added “haha, joking”. Cipriano wrote back: “If you’re actually not joking, I’d be honoured.”

So Cipriano flew to Los Angeles, and they recorded “Babydoll” on the very day they first met. The duet came out on September 18, 2026 on Republic Records. Miller says they’re now best friends, and Cipriano called him “one of the best vocalists I’ve ever heard.”

Off Campus fans have their own reason to love it. Many of them have made “Babydoll” the anthem for Logan and Grace Ivers, the couple at the heart of Elle Kennedy’s book The Mistake. Grace will be played by India Fowler in Season 2, so fans are hoping the song turns up on the show. Both singers have said they’d be up for it, though nothing is confirmed.

Jonas Brothers tour and live debut

Miller has also been opening for the Jonas Brothers on select North American dates of their “The Burning Up Tour All Over Again”. On September 30 in Washington, D.C., he brought Cipriano out during his set, and the pair performed “Babydoll” live together for the first time, dance and all, down the catwalk. Miller told the BBC it was the first arena run for both of them, and that backstage they kept saying, “we’re going out to play for 20,000 people, what are we doing bro?”

What’s next?

Miller says he has new music ready and is excited to tour his latest album, especially in Wales. Cipriano, who has never been to Wales, says he’d love to come along and meet Miller’s family. If the chart predictions hold, “Babydoll” will have a second week at number one by the end of this week.
